At Three French Hens we understand one thing to be true. Decorating is an art form and it takes trial and error to get it right. We all make decorating mistakes (sometimes even the professionals), but that shouldn’t scare you! Our designers want you to be happy in your home for a long time to come. We won’t push you to buy something that is trendy. We know by doing that you would be unhappy in a few years and you’d have to come back. We would rather you spend your money on pieces that you will love and cherish for years to come! Here are some ways that we think differently, and some ways that YOU can think differently in order to get results that will send you over-the-moon.
We Don’t Follow Trends
I know I’ve said it before, but don’t choose a color scheme or any home decor just because it is “on trend.” Trends are definitely fun to follow. Pinterest, Instagram, Architectural Digest, Better Homes and Gardens and countless shows on HGTV tell you exactly what you need for your home to be on trend. One of our least favorite things to hear from our vendors is that an item is a “best seller.” If we hear that an item is a best seller, we don’t purchase it to sell to our customers. “Why,” you ask? It’s because we don’t want you to have the same decor as everyone else. I know we harp on your “story” a lot as well, but it is so important for your house to be a true reflection of you and what you enjoy. We know we’ve done our jobs when our client’s homes fit their personalities, and we pride ourselves in getting to know our customers for that very reason.
We Don’t Want You to Overthink It
We get customers all the time (You might be one - it’s okay. We are here to help you figure it out.) who overthink every option they are presented with. We are more than happy to endlessly debate the pros and cons with you, even when we know that the choice you are making is a good one, but why waste that much time?
There are three questions you should ask yourself if you are searching for home decor.
Does it spark your interest?
Do you feel the flutter in your heart? Do your pupils dilate?
Does it inspire you?
Can you imagine just where you are going to place it? Does it give you ideas on complimentary decor?
Do you think you’d still like to look at it two years from now?
Can you imagine still feeling the butterflies in your stomach years from now? You don’t want to spend money on something that you don’t think will last a lifetime!
We Aren’t Afraid to Mix
As long as you are sticking to basic design principles, you will be so happy with the results. A lot of customers get hung up on mixing colors, patterns, shapes, subject matter, etc… We know it’s hard, but TRUST YOUR GUT! Like I’ve said before - if you love something, you (or your designer at Three French Hens) can make it work! Pairing complimentary, rather than coordinating, prints and colors will warm up your space immensely. Instead of choosing one accent color, choose a pallet or tone you’d like to stick with.
